Where to Start Beekeeping
Joining a club is a great place to start
Beekeeping is becoming a more and more popular past time / hobby with the increased awareness of Bees and how important they are to our way of life. The best way to find out how to get into beekeeping / apiary is to come and visit our club.
The Club meetings are held in Frankston Vic on the 4th Wednesday of every month (except December).
At our meetings we give beginners talks with general discussion. We also host a wide variety of guest speakers who present on different subjects thoughout the year. Its more than just having a bee hive, each month is different. You'll be able to find out all the What's - When's - Where's - Why's - How's.... and everything else just by being there and speaking to our members and speakers and we always run a Q & A, so its makes for a very friendly evening.
We have a trading table with basic supplies so you can get a hands on look and feel at the equipment you will need. The Club is currently putting together a beginners pack with all the information needed for the avid hobbyist that is getting their first hive.
The club also runs an Introduction to Beekeeping course for new and older beekeepers - you'll learn all, not just the basics you need, to be able to start and look after a hive. Our NUC (Nucleus) Box Building course gives you a hands on session to build your very own 4 frame nucleus box which can be used to hold your first swarm - split a hive into two - you can use it as a bait hive - bring honey frames into extract, you made it, so you get to keep it and take home. The Club is a Not For Profit Association so all proceeds from these courses goes straight back into the club to support the members.
We hope to see you there!
